CDA Featured in The Globe & Mail: Transforming Southern California’s Hottest Property Market, Downtown L.A.

We’re honoured that CDA was featured in the May 5th edition of The Globe and Mail in praise of our work within Downtown L.A. (DTLA).

With more than 600 new businesses opened since 2008, and an astounding triple in residents since 1999, DTLA is Southern California’s hottest property market.

Post-recession, Onni was the first Vancouver developer to significantly invest in DTLA, catalyzing its transformation. Derrick Moore, Principal of Retail Properties at Avison Young, has high praise for architect Chris Dikeakos, Founding and Managing Principal at CDA, who designed all the Onni projects and the new Amacon tower. “It’s a nice integration of the street level with the building and engages passersby,” says Moore.

The evolution of DTLA is one that resembles that of Vancouver’s, when its downtown core was transformed into a residential hub 15 years ago. “Vancouver is one of the cities in North America that has done downtown residential densification right, and L.A. can only benefit from that,” said Carol Schatz, President and CEO of L.A.’s Downtown Center Business Improvement District, a coalition of 450 property owners.

“Over the next few years, the face of Downtown L.A. will continue to take shape,” says Chris Dikeakos, Founding and Managing Principal at CDA. “We’re excited to be involved in the architectural development of world-class Canadian and American cities like Vancouver and L.A.,” added Dikeakos.
