Breaking Ground In Burnaby: The Station Square High-Rise Development

On October 10th, 2014, Anthem Properties and Beedie Development Group held a “topping off” party for the Station Square Site 4 project. This celebration signified reaching the top of the 35-storey residential tower in Burnaby, the first of five towers in the Station Square Development.

When complete, the sleek, modern Station Square Site 4 tower will be home to 269 condo units, two storeys of office space, and an entire ground floor of retail space. Save on Foods and TD Bank are among the first community partners to secure retail space.

With metal panel accents, limestone veneers, and wood-grain trellises that crown the three stories of commercial space, Station Square will also feature amenities including a gym, yoga room, handicapped-accessible changerooms, and a private courtyard. The tower features concrete accents with fully glazed facades and Station Square’s signature “Skygarden” units more than halfway up the tower. The Skygardens—unique, two-level units with scenic views stretching as far as the North Shore—are framed with large planters and spectra metal panels that change colour depending on the vantage point.

Before the next phase of Station Square could begin, the development team of Anthem Properties and Beedie Living held a ground-breaking ceremony to signify the next phase of construction: Station Square Site 2 and 3. Joined by Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan, Anthem CEO Eric Carlson and Beedie President Ryan Beedie spoke about the significance of this development to citizens and reporters:

“. . . One of the things I love the most is the employment generation: creating well-paid construction jobs,” said Beedie. “We’re celebrating a milestone in the development of this project,” added Carlson. “Several years from now, right where we’re standing is going to be a very exciting place.”  (Jacob Zinn: Station Square's Next Phase to Double Construction Jobs: Burnaby Now)

The entire Station Square project—built around LEED standards for environmental sustainability—is only seconds away from the skytrain, buses, and the Metrotown shopping district.

After the speeches, with shovels in hand, the mayor and development team proceeded to “break ground” at the future location of the 48-storey residential tower, set to be one of the tallest towers ever built in Burnaby. The other residential tower on the site will be 35 storeys, and both towers will share a common podium. The Station Square Site 2 and 3 project will consist of 765 new homes when construction is complete.
